Los Angeles may be famous for its sprawl, but our metropolis is also a network of neighborhoods that come together as a singular city.

The other thing we’re famous for? Traffic. That means exploring and engaging LA requires sticking to one region each day–and forgetting the idea of hitting Downtown, the Beach, and the East Side in a single afternoon.

So, we’re making it easy for you by breaking down the week’s best events and exhibitions by location. That way, you can maximize your hours looking at art—not the other cars on the freeway.

Daily Hit List

We've curated the following list of must-sees and tips from Arkive member and advisor, Vajra Kingsley.

A meaningful, stress-free art week… it’s all possible. Just follow my guidance.  Tip #1? If you are not an Arkive member/museum board traveler, or you have not joined  Cultured’s VIP Club, I highly recommend jumping on the Frieze VIP wagon—they’ll fill your week with all the best artist studio visits, private collection tours, and museum director-led art experiences. Similarly, it’s ideal to get to LA at least 2-3 days early to see it all.

Monday: After hitting the court for the inaugural Artadia tennis tournament at the LA Tennis Club (get on the waitlist. We suspect It will be LA Art Week’s hottest event!), learn more about Artadia and what they do for artists. While on the East Side, head to LACMA: the Heizer work never lets you down, and the unmissable “Afro-Atlantic Histories” show is on view

Tuesday: The day to head to the artist studios/galleries. Frieze VIP will host exhibitions at all the major downtown museums.

Wednesday: Hit all the gallery exhibitions and special projects you missed on Tuesday while you got caught in traffic. Take a trip to Cultured Magazine’s HQ: Rogan Gregory will also be hosting open studio hours next door. Brave the elevator and enjoy the pool vibes for the opening of the Felix Art Fair at The Roosevelt hotel.  The evening move is WEHO/Beverly Hills—Gagosian will host a special performance with Kim Gordon. Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and UTA also are hosting openings.

Thursday: Enjoy your fair day how you like. I will be focusing first on the special projects section and then making my way to the galleries, excited to see Art Production Fund’s collaboration onsite. Make sure to also take time to check out 'Against the Edge', an expanded series of projects curated by Jay Ezra Nayssan and Del Vaz Projects installed in culturally significant sites across the west side of Los Angeles. Lastly, I'll be stopping by a private event hosted by Giving Back is Dead/Scott Stover introducing Remuseum, an initiative funded by David Booth and sponsored by Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, with additional support from the Ford Foundation.

Friday: Recenter yourself after a busy week of art and events. Drive to the newly opened OCMA, wander into the desert, or trek out to that faraway artist studio you’ve been meaning to hit. But make sure to get back in time to enjoy NeueHouse’s new Venice Beach location for cocktails and a talk cohosted by Arkive featuring Casey Fremont, Spencer MAR Guilburt, Gena Milanesi and Tom McLeod. Reception at Maison Lune to follow. (RSVP Here)
