Gallery Highlights
The galleries aren't just open for viewing at the fair. In fact, many have quite distinct spaces that are on our list of must-sees this week! We share, below:
Parker Gallery—Tucked inside Sam Parker’s own home are Nancy Shaver’s bold multimedia sculptures, with materials ranging from fabric to found objects.
Hauser & Wirth—The gallery will show local artists, which is hardly a limitation: Works by Larry Bell, Mark Bradford, Charles Gaines, Richard Jackson, Paul McCarthy, Gary Simmons, Henry Taylor and Diana Thater (as well as the late Luchita Hurtado, Mike Kelley and Jason Rhoades) will be on view.
Gagosian—On offer at Frieze are Rick Lowe’s new paintings and works on paper, which explore urban design, sometimes at monumental scale.
Anat Egbi—Check out Cultured’s recent conversation between Jessica Taylor Bellamy and Suzanne Lacy, on the occasion of Bellamy’s exhibition “Endnotes for Sunshine.” The gallery keeps expanding its presence in LA with three spaces—and a big booth at shows at the fair
Loyal Gallery—For the first time in El Royale’s history (it opened in 1929), the Deco building is hosting Stockholm’s Loyal Gallery, who’ve mounted a show of thirteen artists who challenge art-historical preconditions with equal parts potency and inventiveness. February 15th-20th, 450 N. Rossmore Avenue in Hancock Park. Email loyal@loyalgallery.com to book.
Sea View—LA artist and fixture, Jorge Pardo, has handed over his Mount Washington studio to Sara Lee Hantman, who’s turned the space into a gallery with its inaugural exhibition, "River Styx." Email to book an appointment.
