LUCY SPARROW, ARTIST

British artist Lucy Sparrow transforms the mundane into magic, turning everyday staples into objects of joy, comfort, and contemplation. This year at Scope, the undisputed queen of felt thinks everyone should be eating more fruits and veggies.

Blessed Be the Fruit, her immersive installation on display at the Fair from December 3–8, is a felted feast—a farmer’s market bursting with over 6,000 handmade fruits and vegetables, each crafted with the artist’s signature wit and meticulous detail. Expect to meet, among others, an angry head of broccoli, a bashful peach, and an eggplant that’s tired of its reputation.

This immersive installation also features a series of framed still life inspired by vintage produce ads, seamlessly blending nostalgia with Sparrow’s unmistakable charm. With a global following that’s taken her from Buckingham Palace to Diptyque’s flagship campaigns, Sparrow’s art is a reminder that even the most mundane objects have stories—and souls.

We asked Lucy to share how she’s preparing for and planning to spend her seventh year showing at Miami Art Week.

A guide to Lucy's Miami:

The most energizing Miami art experience: Seeing the audience reaction to my work. I prepare for each installation up to a year in advance and this part of my practice can be relatively solitary. As soon as the Fair opens and the audience flood in to enjoy the work, the energy is incredible. I have so many regular clients who visit me in Miami each year and I always look forward to seeing them and watching them react to the new work.

Favorite Miami art adventure: Just immersing myself in visiting as many fairs as I can fit in. Every year I make sure to go and see the new series of murals at Wynwood Walls

Currently reading: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess for about the 15th time.

The most essential voices in art news: I follow so many artists on Instagram it’s really where I keep up to date with the ever evolving world.

Before the fair, I’ll get my (coffee/smoothie/breakfast) at: News Cafe on Ocean Drive – I’m practically a resident for Art Week.

The last photo in my camera roll: From Paris! I’m just back from the opening event for my global holiday collaboration with Diptyque at their Maison on Rue Duphot.

I buy my supplies at: I have so many – but love the brilliant Paper-and-string in Dorset.

The last rabbit hole I went down: The Lord Lucan mystery – I am a true crime obsessive. I’ll listen to hours of podcasts while I’m painting.

Miami’s best hotel lobby: I have a huge soft spot for The Tony on Collins Avenue. The team there are like family, huge shout out to the amazing David who is the highlight of their lobby!

Non-museum/gallery with the best art collection is: 21c Museum Hotels have an amazing collection.

How do you prepare to be creative? My brain never turns off. I am always planning, researching and dreaming of the next project.
